The Healthy Congregations Recognition program, recognized Kansas United Methodist congregations for their efforts to nurture, reach out and educate through ministries of health, healing and wholeness. For 2009, the Recognition program has been superseded by the new Healthy Congregations Covenant program, with a simplified, new approach to foster greater participation and results. The Healthy Congregations Hall of Fame serves as an archive of the historic Recognition program. We hope you'll find it interesting and join us in the new Healthy Congregations Covenant program.

Highlighted Activities for Mulvane UMC (4):
Activities listed below were specially chosen from among all reported activities for the listed year. These highlighted activities were featured in the Healthy Congregations recognition brochure for the listed year.
| Year | Highlighted Activities |
| 1997 | Donations to a "Teddy Bear Tree" provided needed supplies for a congregational care activity that has given may members a boost when needed. Now when someone is hospitalized, ill at home, in an accident, or just needs a lift, the church delivers a Teddy Bear. Building on the same theme, the church provides Bear Gram Express. Bear Grams are sent to deliver a simple message--Thinking of You, Thanks, I Care. They are included in the Sunday Bulletin as well. Another effort to include lay people in health care ministry is Care Express. Ten hours of training was offered to 15-22 church volunteers who provide support to the congregation, including general visits, hospital visits, home-from-hospital visits, death/bereavement visits, and visits relating to divorce, job crisis, or drugs/alcohol problems. The group meets every other month for on-going training. |
| 1997 | Four area United Methodist Churches -- Madison Avenue and Woodlawn in Derby, Haysville, and Mulvane -- cooperated to develop a Parish Nurse network with the help of a grant from the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund. Seminars, an annual health fair, and a mobile mammography screening were coordinated among the churches through the network. |
| 1998 | Parish Nurse Networks are working to improve the physical, mental, and emotional health of church members. Madison Avenue, Derby Woodlawn, Mulvane, and Haysville UMCs formed a Health Alliance, that now shares a part-time parish nurse, to coordinate health fairs, education programs, and health information among the four churches. |
| 1999 | Woodlawn UMC, Derby, reported a third successful Health Fair involving four churches in the Derby area (also Mulvane, Haysville, and Madison Avenue). Participation increased 66%. In addition to health information, lab work and flu shots for a nominal fee attracted participation. |
