The Healthy Congregations Recognition program, recognized Kansas United Methodist congregations for their efforts to nurture, reach out and educate through ministries of health, healing and wholeness. For 2009, the Recognition program has been superseded by the new Healthy Congregations Covenant program, with a simplified, new approach to foster greater participation and results. The Healthy Congregations Hall of Fame serves as an archive of the historic Recognition program. We hope you'll find it interesting and join us in the new Healthy Congregations Covenant program.

| 1997 | Envisioned as a group of trained lay members who would provide congregational care support through one-on-one listening during times of stress, the HOPE Team has developed a number of wider-reaching ministries. The 14 members of the team make weekly hospital visits, regular nursing home and homebound visits, and new baby visits. The team also sends cards to members on the prayer list. The HOPE Team meets every month for continued training and ideas and plans to expand into contacting new church members and making "fun" calls to members after coming home from the hospital. HOPE Team membership will also expand. |
| 1999 | First UMC, Winfield, hosted a community-wide "Drug Store" program aimed at children in grades 6-8. The two-hour program presents the life cycle of drug and alcohol abuse -- including a party, trip to the emergency room, and mock funeral. |
| 2000 | First UMC, Winfield, sponsored Habitat for Humanity 2000. A task force was established to organize fundraising. The goal was $20,000.
