So what do you think can raise the anxiety in a system, any system, but especially the church system? The hard part for clergy and leadership is that anxiety can come from within the church or from outside the church and you can get a similar reactivity. What we are talking about is "emotional" systems, and emotional systems intertwine. It is very difficult to know where the emotional system of a particular family ends and the church family emotional system begins, especially the emotional systems of the families of the clergy or leadership. That is why clergy and leadership can become the symptom bearers of the church.

So what does one do to quiet the system, to not become a host cell? And the answer is not an easy one; otherwise leaders would have been doing it all the time. Yet, as followers of Christ, we find within him, his teachings, his ways, the very leadership so needed.
