Congregational Health Partnership
Working together with local United Methodist churches for a healthy Kansas
Servant Leadership: Personal and Professional Self-Care train-the-trainer workshop, May 6

Like
air passengers responsible for the care of others depending upon
them, instructed to first don oxygen masks themselves before assisting
their charges,
persons involved in health ministries and in providing guidance and support
for those within their congregations and communities must first attend to their
own health and wholeness through effective self-care practices.
For those interested in learning more about both the value of and techniques
for personal and professional self-care, and who would be willing to in turn
share that information with others, a train-the-trainer workshop will be held
May 6 at the Spiritual Life Center in Wichita.
The workshop is intended for:
- Clergy and lay members of Kansas UM churches
- Parish nurses and doctors
- Members of Healthy Congregations or Health & Wellness committees
- Health care professionals who are involved, or have a desire to become involved, in health ministry
Workshop objectives: what will you learn?
Participants will:
- Make the connections between spiritual, mental, social, and physical health
- Describe how Servant Leadership requires self-care
- Experience stress-management techniques
- Learn how to say "no"
- Discuss current knowledge and recommendations about nutrition, physical activity, water, and sleep
- Self-assess current health behaviors and choices
- Develop a personal mission statement and a self-care covenant with an accountability plan
